| _ Wrexham County Borough Council has announced the implementation of an e-safety solution across all secondary schools under its remit, through its latest partnership with Securus, a leading provider of e-safety software to the education sector. Securus, a computer monitoring solution, is in full operation in 10 schools nine secondary and one special school following a successful pilot earlier this year at Morgan Llwyd school; the only Welsh Language secondary school in Wrexham. Following implementation, staff in secondary schools in this area of North Wales are able to monitor their computer networks for inappropriate language, access to unsuitable internet sites, and unacceptable personal use of computers during lessons. Furthermore the schools will receive notification of other potentially harmful situations should they arise such as: signs of depression or suicide; predator grooming; sexual, racial or religious harassment; drugs; pornography or gambling. Wrexham County Borough Council recognises the opportunities that technology offers for students, and consequently promotes and encourages usage while educating students on the potential dangers. Ralph Hardy, IS support services manager explains: Securus was initially brought to the attention of the Council through one of our secondary schools. The benefits were apparent, and as a result we partnered with Securus to implement the solution within all secondary schools. Our collaborative venture with Securus is invaluable and highlights our commitment to e-safety in Wrexham. Director of e-safety for Securus, Sally-Ann Griffiths comments: Technology plays an enormous role in today s 21st century educational environment. It is therefore imperative that students are aware of the associated dangers, and use technology in a safe and responsible manner. Wrexham County Borough Council is one of a growing number of local authorities actively addressing the issue of e-safety, and through our partnership, it is now fully equipped to manage risks should they occur.
